The series is co-sponsored by the University of Virginia (UVA) Digital Technology for Democracy Lab (Karsh Institute of Democracy) and the UVA School of Data Science. It brings together leading scholars, advocates, and practitioners to examine the intersections of gender, technology, democracy, and human rights. The aim is to critically explore how digital platforms and technological infrastructures impact women, queer, and gender-diverse individuals, while also identifying pathways toward more inclusive, rights-based models of digital governance.
The inaugural session, with the participation of Diplo’s Marilia Maciel and Renata Avila (Open Knowledge Foundation) will focus on digital colonialism.
