Negotiation skills are developed over years and years of practical experience and it seems that there are very few shortcuts to becoming a good negotiator. In our May WebDebate, we will unpack ideas about teaching and learning negotiation skills. In particular, we will look at the potential of teaching and learning negotiation skills online.

Many successful negotiators argue that the personal contact and the ‘human touch’ are crucial ingredients of negotiation success. Learning to negotiate is not a theoretical endeavour, but rather something that needs hands-on, practical experience.
Yet, with more and more negotiations moving online, at least during the preparatory phase, a new area of negotiations and the need for a new skill set seems to have opened up.
Further, with online learning allowing for convenient on-the-job training and bringing together diverse groups of people from all around the world, we need to ask to what extent negotiation skills can be taught online.
