The Internet is a powerful tool of communication, which online users can use to exercise their right to freedom of expression. Users have documented – and exchanged opinions – on breaking news, from the financial crisis to the rise and fall of dictators; from earth-shattering images of earthquake and tsunami-stricken regions, to political unrest and child exploitation.
However, what happens when the right to freedom of expression is violated? Or when it is confronted with other human rights provisions, such as privacy or intellectual property? And who determines the balance?
Join us for our February webinar on Online Freedom of Expression, on Tuesday 28th February, at 08:00 GMT. Our special host is Salanieta T. Tamanikaiwaimaro, from Fiji, one of two co-coordinators of the Civil Society Internet Governance Caucus (IGC), who will be discussing the main controversies surrounding online freedom of expression.
