Internet Digitalisation and Youth Employment: Job Creator or Job Disruptor?

02 May 2017 -

Geneva, Switzerland

Event description

Internet Digitalisation and Youth Employment: Job Creator or Job Disruptor? is the theme for this year’s Interns with a Mission event. The panel discussion, followed by a networking reception, will take place at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. DiploFoundation’s Dr Roxana Radu will moderate the discussion, which is this year organised by the United Nations Oce at Geneva (UNOG), in collaboration with DiploFoundation, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and the Geneva Internet Platform.

The annual Interns with a Mission event brings together interns from permanent missions, international organisations, and NGOs, to share their experiences and to develop a sense of community among the next generation of diplomats.

This year’s theme, ‘Internet, digitalisation and youth employment: Turning the challenge into an opportunity?’, will discuss the issue of automation which has increasingly been placed on the international agenda. More and more jobs are being automated, making a rising number of workers redundant on the labour market. The world is living through the reality of the fourth industrial revolution, one of the inherent parts of which is automation and wide-scale use of cyber-physical systems. Should the wider public, and especially youth, be afraid of automation and consider themselves doomed for a future of unemployment? In an interactive discussion, four panellists will discuss the impact of digitalisation and automation on the job market.
