E-Commerce at the WTO: Key Insights for LDCs and SIDS

30 June 2025

Geneva

As the global economy becomes increasingly digitalized, there is growing recognition of the need to update global trade frameworks to create a more predictable and transparent.

In the lead-up to the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC14), the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) organised a roundtable to provide Least Developed Country (LDC) and Small Island Developing State (SIDS) delegations to the WTO with an up-to-date understanding of the multilateral and plurilateral processes on e-commerce.

The event will review the distinct barriers limiting LDC and SIDS participation in digital trade and examine how WTO processes can help address these challenges. The discussion will also explore key considerations and potential hurdles related to implementation, with the goal of supporting these countries in effectively leveraging international frameworks.

Marilia Maciel will be a speaker in the session dedicated to the WTO Multilateral Work Programme on e-commerce.
