The International Institute for Middle East and Balkan Studies in Ljubljana announced the publication of "Diplomacy in Focus: Selected Articles 1990–2021" by Dr. Milan Jazbec, a respected author, professor of diplomacy, and ambassador. The book is part of his trilogy, showcasing his contributions to diplomatic studies. Jazbec's work spans over 70 books and 130 articles in 15 languages, emphasizing the importance of the Slovene language in diplomacy. His novel trilogy "Lady in White" further explores diplomatic themes. Jazbec's extensive experience includes diplomatic roles in various countries and teaching positions at prestigious universities.

LJUBLJANA, 17 May 2022 The International Institute for Middle East and Balkan Studies (IFIMES), Ljubljana, is pleased to announce that the book Diplomacy in Focus: Selected Articles 1990–2021 has been published. The respected author Dr Milan Jazbec, professor of diplomacy and ambassador, poet and writer, employed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, presents in it a selection of his contributions from the previous three decades.

Diplomacy in Focus: Selected Articles 1990–2021 is the first book of his trilogy Selected Scientific Works and Other Contributions by Milan Jazbec. The second book, Each Day Comes as New, brings a selection of this author’s essays and forewords from the same period, while the third book, Security, Defence and Slovenia provides his selected contributions from 2001 to 2021. Both books will be published in June 2022, also by IFIMES. 

Jazbec Diplomacy in Focus Selected Articles 1990–2021

Jazbec’s scientific work focuses on the comprehensive research of diplomacy. Apart from theory, he pays primary attention to the establishment, development, and functioning of Slovene diplomacy in which he has been a diplomat and an an active participant since its beginning. Jazbec is also paving the way for the initial research in the field of sociology of diplomacy and postmodern diplomacy, as well as diplomacy and literature.

Diplomacy is also part of his fictional writing. He is completing his trilogy of novels on diplomacy titled Lady in White. The first book, Rainbow Beyond the Soul, and the second, In a Search of a Lost Soul, have been translated into many languages.

His work is an outstanding contribution to the further development of diplomatic studies in Slovenia and in the broader international frame. His pays special attention to the Slovene language as a language of diplomacy. 

This trilogy of Professor and Ambassador Jazbec presents a comprehensive selection from his rich and broad scientific opus of more than 70  published books and more than 130 articles on diplomacy and related topics, all in 15 languages.

Milan Jazbec was the Slovene ambassador to North Macedonia (2016–2020), to Turkey (2010–2015), accredited also to Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria, as well as the state secretary at the Slovene Ministry of Defense (2000–2004). He teaches diplomacy at the Nova University in Ljubljana, and lectures at Columbia University, the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, and the faculties for political sciences in Sarajevo and Zagreb. He was a visiting professor at various universities in North Macedonia and Turkey. Jazbec is a member of the Slovene PEN Center and a senior lecturer at DiploFoundation Geneva.
