May-June developments

As of June 2025, Microsoft Teams has introduced a range of updates designed to improve the overall online meetings and collaboration experience. One of the most notable additions is the introduction of interactive agents in meetings. These AI-powered assistants can respond to participants’ questions, track action items, and offer real-time suggestions, helping to streamline discussions and boost productivity during meetings.

Another helpful feature is the new lobby chat functionality, which allows organisers to send messages to attendees waiting in the meeting lobby. This enhances communication before the meeting starts and gives organisers better control over participant engagement.

For Teams Premium and Microsoft 365 Copilot users, enhanced meeting recap features are available for town halls and webinars. These include AI-generated meeting notes, task summaries, and speaker timelines—bringing the same level of post-meeting insight previously only available in standard meetings to larger, more complex sessions.

Microsoft has improved Teams chats and meetings with a customisable layout, advanced filters, and support for keyboard shortcuts from other apps to boost productivity. Pasted code blocks now keep the formatting of the last used language for better readability.

Users can now add an audio pronunciation of their name to their Teams profile, making it easier for colleagues from diverse backgrounds to connect respectfully and accurately.

Lastly, Teams meetings now support pop-out windows for live captions and real-time text, allowing users to move and resize these elements for better visibility, especially when multitasking or participating in complex discussions.

As part of the May and June updates, Google Meet is unlocking a new way to share, letting users present content directly from an external camera feed during meetings. This capability is ideal for equipment such as document cameras, video production tools, or professional external cameras. Google Meet now supports content sharing from external cameras in up to 1080p at 30 frames per second.

Breaking down language barriers in real time, Google Meet unveils AI-powered speech translation with Gemini, allowing participants to hear conversations in their preferred language, complete with the speaker’s original voice, tone, and expression.

As part of its latest platform update, Zoom has introduced enhancements to Zoom Rooms, including a modernised interface featuring redesigned icons. Additionally, administrators can now set the Room Controls screen as the default home page, enabling quicker access to essential functions and improving overall meeting room efficiency.

In a significant step toward greater inclusivity, a new ‘listen’ feature in Companion Mode allows users to connect headphones or assistive listening devices to follow meetings more comfortably, particularly supporting those with hearing impairments.

Zoom Team Chat has also been refined for a smoother messaging experience. The mobile compose interface now provides quicker access to AI Companion features, @mentions, and rich text formatting, bringing it more in line with the desktop version. Message translation has also been made more accessible, with clearer menu options and faster access to preferred language settings.
