Virtual diplomacy for a virtual nation

26 April 2006

Event description

The Roma Diplomacy seminar, ‘Virtual Diplomacy for a Virtual Nation’, organised in Geneva by Diplo and the Graduate Institute of International Studies, provided an opportunity for dialogue and development. Working together in a round table environment, Roma rights activists, academics, and members of the Geneva international community concerned with human rights and related issues, mapped out the main elements of Roma Diplomacy, a form of non-state representation aimed at developing policy partnerships. Participants explored the possibilities and limits of Roma diplomacy, and its relationship to classical diplomacy. The seminar addressed the problem of the policy gap existing in the communication between Roma communities and decision makers at the European, national and local levels, and was part of the Roma Diplomacy project.
