Diplo hosted a two-day international conference, ‘Challenges for Foreign Ministries: Managing Diplomatic Networks and Optimising Value’ in Geneva, from 31 May to 1 June, 2006. The conference attracted the representatives of over 30 foreign ministries, as well as leading academics and practitioners in this field. The discussion focused on a variety of issues, including the reform and adaptation of diplomatic processes that many foreign ministries have undertaken. Also covered were the recently introduced US concept of ‘transformational diplomacy’, challenges for small countries, ways and means to manage diplomatic knowledge, and performance management in diplomacy.
