Diplo Capacity Building Programme and EuroDIG 2009

Twenty graduates from Diplo’s European Capacity Building Programme were among the delegates at the European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG), held in Geneva on 14-15 September. EuroDIG 2009, organised by the European Broadcasting Union, the Council of Europe, and Ofcom brought together 200 representatives from business, governments, parliaments, and civil society to discuss internet governance issues. Primary topics discussed at this event included cybersecurity, child protection, domain names, intellectual property, and privacy. Media literacy was also an important aspect of the programme, with a particular focus on establishing a “European IGF,” where a common European perspective can be discussed and carried to other fora. Diplo participants attended this event as part of the policy immersion component of the European Capacity Building Programme. Observations of the conference from Diplo associates and other participants are on the Diplo Internet Governance community site.
