Information session: Geneva Dialogue on Responsible Behaviour in Cyberspace

Geneva, Switzerland; and online   3 Jul 2018    Internet Governance

WHY

While cyberspace and ICT can deliver significant benefits to society, the growing use of ICT by State and non-State actors for malicious purposes – threatening not only peace and security but also the entire digital society and economy – is of significant concern to the international community. Promoting responsible behaviour of all actors is key to ensuring a peaceful, secure and stable cyberspace.

Although many efforts have focused on identifying norms of responsible state behaviour, greater awareness is still required. There is also less clarity on the roles and responsibilities of other actors and how they, too, are contributing – or can contribute – to greater stability and security in cyberspace.

HOW

The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in co-operation with the Geneva Internet Platform (GIP), the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), ETH Zurich, and the University of Lausanne launched the Geneva Dialogue on Responsible Behaviour in Cyberspace. The Geneva Dialogue aims to map the roles and responsibilities of states, industry actors and civil society, academic and tech communities in contributing to greater security and stability in cyberspace.

INFORMATION SESSION: TUESDAY, 3rd JULY 2018

The GIP in co-operation with the FDFA invites stakeholders for an information session about the Geneva Dialogue on Responsible Behaviour in Cyberspace on Tuesday, 3rd July, 15:00 – 16:00, at the GIP, WMO/OMM, 7bis Avenue de la Paix. Stakeholders can also participate in the info session online.

During this session, Mr Adrian Junker, Deputy Head, Division for Security Policy, FDFA, will introduce the background, goals, and timeframes of the dialogue. He will also explain how stakeholders can contribute to the process. The session will include time for a Q&A.

The information session is open to representatives from governments, the private sector, the technical community, civil society, academia, and other interested parties.

To participate, fill in the registration form, indicating whether you will be participating from Geneva or online.
