Jan Lüdert

Head of Programmes, German Center for Research and Innovation, New York

Jan Lüdert leads the programming, strategic planning, and implementation of initiatives between Germany and North America in science, technology, and innovation. He has over 20 years of experience in international relations, higher education, and knowledge management, with a focus on science diplomacy and transatlantic partnerships.

Jan earned a PhD in Political Science from the University of British Columbia (UBC). He holds the Harvard Kennedy School’s Public Leadership Credential; a First-Class Honours MA in International Relations from the Australian National University; and a BA in Public Policy from Hamburg University for Economics and Politics.

He previously served as Associate Professor at City University of Seattle, where he was the inaugural Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

Jan held positions as Visiting Research Scholar at the Ralph Bunche Institute for International Studies at the City University of New York’s Graduate Center, as well as Research Associate with the DFG ‘Dynamics of Security’ project at Philipps Marburg University. He is an alumnus of Seattle’s World Affairs Council Fellows and UBC Liu Institute for Global Issues Scholar programmes.

He studied at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, focusing on sociology and economics. As a senior manager, he coordinated international development programmes in Botswana for Skillshare International.

As an accomplished author, Jan published Non-State Actors at the United Nations (Routledge); co-authored The UN Trusteeship System (Routledge); and edited Signature Pedagogies in International Relations (e-IR Publishing), amongst others.

These combined experiences have prepared him to develop active global networks in academia, government, and industry, as well as applied knowledge of the research landscape in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America.
