The course familiarises participants with basic definitions, concepts, actors, and institutions in the field of humanitarian diplomacy; introduces international humanitarian law; hones advocacy and negotiation skills; develops participants’ research skills; and increases their understanding of national and regional humanitarian diplomacy activities. The course is offered in English; however, participants have the option to write and submit major course assignments and the final research paper in French or Spanish. The next session starts on 16 September 2019 and the application deadline is 5 August 2019. Please visit the course webpage to read more and apply.

In just a few years, issues that were considered ‘techie’, or deemed futuristic, became part of the diplomatic reality. Artificial intelligence, cyber-attacks, fake news, and e-commerce are negotiated at the United Nations, and at regional and bilateral fora worldwide. In developing their digital/cyber/tech diplomacies, countries face many challenges and open issues. These will be addressed at the conference Digital (and) Diplomacy: How to deal with digital aspects of foreign policy, organised by DiploFoundation.
The conference will take place on Wednesday, 18 September 2019 in Geneva.
In Internet governance in June 2019 Andrijana Gavrilovic summarises the main points from the latest monthly Internet governance briefing; these include Facebook’s plans for the cryptocurrency ‘Libra’, online rental business coming under fire, and a renewed push to tax digital giants.
We will resume with our monthly Internet governance briefings in August. Join us on Tuesday, 27th August, at 11:00 UTC (13:00 CEST), to find out what the main Internet governance updates in July and August were, and how they will influence the developments in upcoming months.
