Update: Diplo director at High-Level Roundtable on Diplomacy in the Digital Age

Prof. Jovan Kurbalija, founding director of DiploFoundation, kicked off the discussion with a thought-provoking overview of key trends in digital diplomacy. Ms Maria Belovas, head of communications at the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and leadership team member of the Digital Diplomacy Coalition, led a workshop on big data and social media, and discussed the advanced work of the government of Estonia in this field.

This was followed by an interactive breakout session on cybersecurity and state-level cyber crime animated by, Mr François Rivasseau, director of security policy and space policy at the European External Action Service, and a design-thinking session by high-level facilitators, which brought the CIOs together to study policy options and share best practices.

The roundtable was attended by international diplomats, policymakers, chief information officers, academics and other thought leaders from Belgium, Canada, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland, Sweden, and the European External Action Service.

It was organised by the European Centre for Government Transformation, which was founded in 2009 by the Lisbon Council, Accenture and the College of Europe. The centre is a high-level network and multi-disciplinary research centre for studying state transformation and exchanging best practices.
