Human capacity for adaptation always surprises me. This is why I prefer an adaptive to a directive stance. Out capacity to “imagine” is way inferior to our hidden abilities, when put to the test.

My political example is Sonia Gandhi, who came from a middling family and grew up in a middling northern Italian town, and somehow – by din of fate – ended up with her hand on India’s tiller.

I’ve just come across this video – from China, and I’d like you to reflect, as you watch it, on the infinite adaptability that’s hidden in us all.

and then stop kwetching about the world going to the dogs, the sky falling in, the oceans boiling over, or whatever fear of the future you may currently nurse.

As Winston Churchill said: “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
