Workshops and Sessions

“Network Neutrality:
Examining the Issues and Implications for Development”
(Workshop no. 58)

 When and Where*:  4 December 2008, 14:30-16:00, Room 5

Organisers:  DiploFoundation and the Technology Policy Institute

Network Neutrality questions the right of network operators to deliver certain data packets faster than others based on the type of application, source and nature of content, and other criteria.

Would regulations dictating how networks operate affect incentives to invest in infrastructure and content?

Would explicitly allowing packet prioritization and new pricing models convey additional market power to a small number of incumbent companies, further disadvantaging consumers in developing countries?

Discussing a balance between regulation, economy and innovation.

“Best Practices Forum: Internet Governance Capacity Building” (Workshop no. 62)

 When and Where*:  5 December 2008, 16:30-18:00, Room 7

     Organisers:  DiploFoundation with Partners

“Walk the Talk”:

How can we best use the online space for developing learning resources about the online space itself?

Diplo will share experiences with its decade-long delivery of interactive online training programs for professionals world-wide, with a focus on its successful IG Capacity Building Programme (since 2005).

Programme alumni and community members will present their perspectives, lessons learned, best practices and follow-up initiatives on national and regional levels: national and regional training in IG, ICT strategic planning and focus areas (e-voting, cyber-security, safety, infrastructure and more), remote participation initiatives, community-building and online research.

Eager to hear the experiences of others? Willing to share yours? Please join us.

“Dimensions of cyber-security and cyber-crime” (Main Session)

When and Where*:  4 December 2008, Main Session Room

* Tentative schedule. Please confirm with the official agenda or at the Diplo booth.

“Youth and Internet Governance: Challenges for the future?” (Workshop no. 86)

 When and Where*:  3 December 2008, 11:00-12:30, Room 4

Organisers:  Peoples’ Development Organisation and DiploFoundation

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children. (Native American Proverb)

Should this principle be the same with the Internet? Shouldn’t we ask the youth how they see the Internet of tomorrow? What are their concerns? What is the role of youth and how can we empower it?

Join us for _The Only_ IGF session on Youth!

We welcome youth of all ages who (really) care about the future.
