Internet Governance Capacity Building

The Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme (IGCBP) aims to assist individuals involved in IG issues from countries with limited financial and human resources to develop the skills and knowledge required to participate meaningfully in the global debate on IG.

The programme is organised by DiploFoundation with support from partner institutions and individuals with expertise in Internet Governance-related issues.

The 2005 IGCBP was an innovative pilot pro-gramme which provided a timely low cost and effective training. The programme which was the first of its kind consisted of an online training phase, a research phase and fellowships were awarded to the top participants.

The 2006 IGCBP built on the success of the pilot project in building a broader community and participating more in regional activities.

In response to the demand for the programme, gauged from the number of applicants for each call, the 2007 programmehas increased its intake to 138, supported by a larger tutoring team

In the last three years we have trained 267 people from over 80 countries.

The 2008 IGCBP brings local and regional issues into the focus and is improved by the introduction of several bilingual groups (English and Arabic, French, Portuguese or Spanish), enabling the participants to map the IG field in their native language. The advanced course and the research phase aim at reinforcing the discussions on advanced topics that are high on the global IG agenda. The programme will run from March to November.
