NEWS DiploFoundation and the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) to offer IGCB Course for India As we continue to develop online facets of our daily personal and professional lives, Internet Governance will become more important to each of us, our countries, and our regions. This year, India will focus more than ever on Internet Governance, as the 2008 host country for the third United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF) which will be held in Hyderabad, India from December 3 to 6th. In preparation for ongoing Internet Governance policy processes, including the IGF, DiploFoundation and the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) will offer an online Internet Governance Capacity Building Course for Indian students from September 1st to November 15th, 2008. More details about the course and the call for applications are available here. 14 July 2008 Closing Session of the IGCBP2008 in Second Life Students in the fourth generation of the Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme have gathered on Thursday, 3 July, for a virtual closing ceremony at Diplomacy Island in Second Life. To enable participation of students with weak bandwidth, Diplo has provided a software bridge between Second Life and the Diplo classroom chat rooms. Besides over 50 students of the 2008 programme and their group tutors, the meeting was attended by Mr. Jovan Kurbalija, Director of DiploFoundation, Mr. Markus Kummer, Executive Coordinator of the Internet Governance Forum Secretariat, and Mr. Rajesh Agarwal from NIXI, the organisers of the forthcoming Internet Governance Forum meeting in India. They have congratulated to participants with emphasizing the importance of Capacity Building and Diplo’s efforts in that direction, and have presented future plans of their respective institutions. 4 July 2008 International meetings: LACNIC, OECD, ICANN, GigaNet Our colleague Raquel Gatto, one of the best participants of the IG Capacity Building Programme 2008, has been granted a LACNIC fellowship to attend the LACNIC XI meeting in Salvador/Bahia, Brazil, from May 26-30, 2008. Other associates were present as well: Fabio Marinho, Francisco Obispo, Ruth Puente and Nigel Cassimire. The OECD Ministerial Meeting, "The Future of the Internet Economy", held in Seoul, Korea, on June 17-18, 2008, was attended by Diplo associates Carolina Rossini, Charity Gamboa, Fouad Bajwa and Katitza Rodriguez Pereda, who took an active part on several panels, as well as promoted the Seoul Declaration advanced by representatives of civil society. Paris has been a hot spot of IG events in June: the ICANN 32nd Public Meeting, held on June 22-26, 2008 and the GigaNet International Workshop, "Global Internet Governance: An Interdisciplinary Research Field in Construction", on June 23, 2008. These events were attended by Diplo associates, including Hanane Boujemi, Radif Fatani, Siranush Vardanyan, Adela Danciu, Didier Rukeratabaro Kasole, Sokol Haxhiu and Olga Cavalli.
