Geneva – February, 2007
Nitin Desai, Renata Bloem and Markus Kummer
DiploFoundation, in collaboration with the Graduate Institute of International Studies and the Swiss Agency for Development Co-operation, organised a seminar on Internet and Diplomacy, which was held at the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva on February 12, 2007. The event was very well-attended from the Geneva-based diplomatic community as well as members of the advisory group of the IGF, who were in Geneva for the advisory group meetings and consultations for the preparations of the IGF meeting to be held in Rio later this year.
The institute is the oldest international relations institute in the world (established in 1927). Over the last two years, the institute has been strengthening its focus on emerging issues in modern diplomacy such as climate change, health, and Internet Governance.

Presenting a keynote speech for the evening was Ambassador Nitin Desai, United Nations Secretary-General's Special Advisor for Internet Governance, who reflected on his broad experience in the IG process and other multilateral activities. Following Ambassador Desai's introduction, a short presentation was given by students of the institute's Technology and Diplomacy course.
