I agree that direct democracy triggers a more engaged public debate. But I am also convinced that direct democracy causes a lot of trouble. Why democratic systems do not enable the public to express their views by other channels than necessarily direct democracy ones? By transparent and open policy and decision-making? By supporting active citizenship?
