ABOUT

Small states, whether defined in terms of numbers of relative capacity, are viable and active partners within the international community. Diplomacy is the main vehicle that gives small states a voice in the global arena to ensure that common goals, issues and problems are properly addressed.

The aim of the Diplomacy of Small States Programme is to increase the capacity of small states to participate meaningfully in international relations. The Project started with an International Conference on Small States Diplomacy held in Malta on 8-9 February 2007. The project includes the following activities and outcomes:

  • Book on the diplomacy of small states
  • Toolkit for small state diplomats
  • Training courses for small state diplomats
  • Research in small state diplomacy
  • Thematic events
  • Alternative solutions for diplomatic representation of small states
