DiploFoundation
recently held a reception to inaugurate its new premises in Malta. Located near its former base, at the Mediterranean Academy
of Diplomatic Studies at the University of Malta, the new premises
mark a new phase in the Foundation’s growth.
Now, just one year from its establishment as a
Foundation, DiploFoundation has its base in Malta from its new offices in
Msida, and also maintains offices in Geneva and Belgrade.
The focus of DiploFoundation has expanded from the application of information technology to diplomacy, to include other aspects in the practice of diplomacy and international relations.
DiploFoundation is currently preparing for the
upcoming World Summit on Information Society in Geneva,
through research, training, and workshops on negotiation over the Internet and Internet Governance.
During the inauguration, Professor Dietrich
Kappeler, president of DiploFoundation and former
director of the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic
Studies, proposed a toast to the new premises. The
representatives of the DiploFoundation Board from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Malta, Mr Patrick Tabone, and the Swiss
Agency for Development and Cooperation in Switzerland, Mr Andri Bisaz, also extended their congratulations and wished the team well for its future endeavours.
Mr Jovan Kurbalija, director of DiploFoundation, gave a short presentation on DiploFoundation’s current activities to diplomats and academics who
attended the event. In his concluding remarks he said that Diplo’s vision was to use technology to free diplomats of
repetitive and administrative tasks so that they
could focus on the true work of diplomats: developing harmonious relations between countries and working towards creating a more peaceful world.
