... I had this amazing possibility to discuss with students around the world the issues Small States face in the international arena due to lack of resources, influence and other constraints... I’d encourage everyone intere-sted to participate in this exciting course.

About Diplo's courses

Diplo’s online courses offer a practical opportunity for working diplomats and others involved in international relations to continue their education by learning about new topics in the field of diplomacy, or expanding and refreshing their knowledge of more traditional topics. Courses require 10 weeks of part-time study, typically 6-8 hours per week.

Diplo uses a collaborative approach to teaching and learning, involving a high level of interaction with course faculty and other participants.

Modes of study

We offer several modes of study for you to choose from, depending on your needs. If you simply want to expand your knowledge and develop your skills, you can enrol in our courses as Certificate Courses. If you are looking forward to a post-graduate degree, you can enrol in the same courses for credits from the University of Malta and later apply the credits towards a degree programme with Diplo or another institution. If you wish to obtain a Postgraduate Diploma or Master’s degree in Contemporary Diplomacy, then you can enrol in our academic programme at the University of Malta and take our courses as part of that programme.

Who should apply?

  • Practicing diplomats, civil servants, and others working in international relations who want to refresh or expand their knowledge under the guidance of experienced practitioners and academics;
  • Post-graduate students of diplomacy or international relations wishing to study topics not offered through their university programmes or diplomatic academies and to gain deeper insight through interaction with practicing diplomats;
  • Post-graduate students or practitioners in other fields seeking an entry point into the world of diplomacy;
  • Journalists, staff of international and non-governmental organisations, translators, business people and others who interact with diplomats and wish to improve their understanding of diplomacy-related topics.

Training solutions for Ministries of Foreign Affairs

Many ministries of foreign affairs around the world register their diplomats in our online courses to provide them with ongoing learning opportunities while they are on-the-job, in the capital or at an embassy abroad. However, if you are looking for a specialised programme for your ministry, we can design customised training upon request. Customised courses can be delivered either through a combination of face-to-face teaching and online learning, or entirely online. They can be tailored to meet the needs of a particular region. Please contact us if your institution is interested in enrolling participants in our courses or organising a customised course.
