| With well over a hundred places to stay (the official figure is 130), Geneva has a wide choice of accommodation, ranging from luxurious five-star hotels to small, family-run hotels, as well as hostels, campings and residential accommodation. Accommodation tends to be reasonable on the French side of the Border,which is not 10 mins away from the city centre. We have made provisional bookings at the Median Hotel in Ferney-Voltaire for those who would like to book accommodation with us. It is illegal to board a bus or tram without a pre-purchased or validated ticket. Coin-operated vending machines (where tickets can also be validated) are situated at all bus and tramway stops. These provide tickets allowing free circulation for one hour (SFr2.20, including transfers) or cheaper tickets for three-stop trips with a return within 30 minutes (SFr1.50). A one-day pass (SFr5) and multiple tickets can be purchased at ticket agents. Driving in the City The roads in Geneva are good and rarely congested. There are extra low speed limits on narrow sections of road, such as in the Old Town. White markings signify unlimited parking; blue, 90 minute parking; and red, 15 minutes. Parking discs are compulsory and can be obtained from police stations. The main car parks are situated at Rue du Mont-Blanc, Place de Cornavin and Rue Henri Dunant. Car Hire Cars can be hired at the airport, railway station and hotels. Bookings can be made directly or via car companies. A national driving licence and credit card are required; drivers must be aged 21 years or older. | Any person entering Switzerland must be able, at all times, to produce a
valid identity document allowing the bearer to cross the border. Participants attending the conference, and who require an entry visa into Switzerland, must make the necessary arrangements well in advance of their departure for Switzerland. Participants should ensure that the visa is valid for a sufficient duration. Please also note that participants who wish
to stay in Ferney Voltaire will also have to have a valid French Visa |

| Practicalities | |
| Money The currency is the Swiss franc, which is divided into 100 centimes. Bank notes: 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 1000 francs. Coins: 5, 10, 20 and 50 centimes and 1, 2 and 5 francs. Banks and bureaux de change: banks and bureaux de change offer interesting rates. Hotels change money, too, but usually at less favourable rates. Credit cards: credit cards (such as Mastercard , Visa, Eurocard, American Express and Diners) are accepted by most hotels, restaurants and shops. ATM: Automatic Teller Machines (from which money can be withdrawn) are found mainly in banks, Cornavin railway station, the airport and some shopping centres. Opening Hours Banks: Monday to Friday: 8.30am - 4.30pm, Wednesday: 8.30am - 5.30pm, closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Post offices: Monday to Friday: 7.30am - noon and 1.45 -6pm, Saturday 8 - 11am. Shops: Monday to Friday: 8.30am - 6.45pm, Saturday 8am - 5pm; most shops are closed on Sundays. Some supermarkets (such as Migros and COOP) close at 7pm on week days and at 5.45pm on Saturdays. There is also a late shopping evening on Thursdays: shops close an hour later - at 8pm. Some grocers are open on Sundays and later in the evening on week days; three supermarkets, one in the airport, another in Cornavin railway station, and a smaller one by the petrol station near Balexert are also open on Sundays until late in the evening. Last but not least, there is also the possibility to purchase various 'first-necessity' goods, food or drinks from a dispenser in the hall below Cornavin railway station at any time of the day or night.
