How to Get Here
The Maltese islands lie in the Mediterranean Sea, 93 km south of
Sicily. Malta is just a few hours’ flying time from most mainland European cities and has excellent intercontinental connections.

Malta’s climate is typical of the Mediterranean: sunny with a daily average of five to six hours
of sunshine in mid-winter to more than 12 hours in summer.
Winters are mild but can be damp and rainy, with the occasional short chilly period brought about by the north and north-easterly winds from central Europe.
Average temperatures in February range from 10 to 16 degrees Celsius,

Money
The local currency is the Maltese Lira (Lm), which is

Banks and Credit Cards
Most banks are open from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, Monday to Friday, and
8:30 to 11.30 AM on Saturday. Some banks work longer hours.
The exchange offices at the Malta International Airport are open 24 hours a day. International bankcards are accepted. Banks,
automated teller machines (ATMs) and exchange offices can be found all over the
islands.
Many hotels, larger shops and restaurants can exchange
currency but offer rates lower than those available at banks. The exchange slip is required to change local currency back to foreign denominations on departure.
Most hotels and restaurants, as well as many shops, accept Access, American Express, Carte Blanche, Diners Club International, Mastercard and Visa.
Visas
Citizens from the following countries do not require a visa to enter Malta.
Citizens of countries not on this list need
a visa to enter Malta and can obtain information from the nearest Maltese
embassy or consulate. If neither is available the conference organisers can
apply for a visa on your behalf for an administrative fee of Lm10.
If you require our assistance with obtaining a visa please let
us know when you register for the conference, at least one
month before you plan to travel to Malta. A single entry visa
costs Lm 10.
